After Storybook Island and before visiting Mount Rushmore, we took the kids to Dinosaur Park, another Rapid City tourist staple. This park, high above the city, was created in 1936 after dinosaur bones were discovered in the area, so the dinosaur statues are only slightly younger than the real things. Kids are permitted to climb and play on all seven of them, so that makes everyone happy.
