2013 Top Ten

T h e    B u s h w a r  T o p   T e n  2 0 1 3
10.  For the first time in over five years, Jon and Susan purchased their last box of diapers for the girls in July.  Potty-training (not to mention household budget) success!
9.  Liam began kindergarten in August.  He lost his first tooth and second tooth on the same day in October.  He still loves Star Wars and baseball.  He’s still not a fan of naps and cooked carrots.
8.  Feeling slightly outnumbered by little people, the Bushwar’s 2013 live entertainment line-up included Medieval Times, marionette shows, a Fresh Beat Band concert, a circus, and two Disney on Ice performances.
7.  Not wanting to break her trend to switch teaching positions every two years, Susan changed jobs this year and is now a special education homebound teacher in Irving.  She loves it and may just stay in one place for more than a couple of years.
6.  The girls started gymnastics in the fall and have since mastered the butterfly stretch, jumping on the trampoline, and potty breaks every twenty minutes.
5.  Marin, our spunky, sweet, three-year-old, although only three minutes older than her twin, has become the self-appointed protector and boss of both her older brother and younger sister.  She loves mermaids, glitter, and bologna.  Don’t be surprised if you hear her inquire, “Will you be my best friend?”
4.  Little sis, Ellery, is the philosopher, singer, and part-time princess in the family.  She loves going to school and church, using excellent manners, and being served dessert.  Her favorite phrase right now is, “That’s gorgeous!”
3.  Liam’s t-ball team, the Cubs, had an undefeated season this spring.  Jon, one of the team’s coaches, believes this success is due to the fact that Liam has a daddy who spends 500+ hours each spring and summer watching the Texas Rangers.
2.  In October, while Susan was in Houston meeting new niece, Linley, Jon found himself in the ER with Ellery.  Luckily, it was just a dislocated elbow, and the nurses were able to easily (but not inexpensively) fix it with bubbles and a grape popsicle.
And # 1 on the 2013 Bushwar’s Top Ten
After 32 days, covering 6,724 miles, and exposure to some of the country’s legendary landmarks such as Yellowstone, Devil’s Tower, Mount Rushmore, the Corn Palace, the Badlands, Wall Drug, and the Spam Museum, the Great American Bushwar Road Trip 2013 was an epic success by testing and proving the theory that parents could survive (and even enjoy!) dragging three kids across the United States.  Hallelujah for McDonald’s chicken nuggets and portable DVD players!

Snowballz and Sparkle

Meet Snowballz (gold top hat) and Sparkle (crown), our new snow friends.  This was another happy Minnesota snow memory at Grandma and Grandpa's house.

Ice Skating the Day Away

ICE SKATING.
This was such a fun time!
Marin and Liam threw caution to the wind, falling over and over, but kept getting up again and again with smiles on their faces.
Ellery used the trainer for a little extra help, ate lots of ice off of her mittens and loved every minute of her time on skates.
They all thought that it was pretty cool to be skating on a frozen river.
I love taking the kiddos to places I used to go when I was a kid.

Snow Much Fun!

On Christmas Day we found some time to take the kiddos outside to play in the snow, and they loved it.  It was tough to get them back inside, so we bribed them with promises of ice skating and snowman building in the days ahead.

"Best Christmas Yet!"

After a short winter storm delay, we made it to Minnesota to spend Christmas with Grandma and Grandpa and lots of family.  It was a wonderful holiday, and Liam proclaimed it, "The best Christmas yet!"  I hope he can say the same thing each year and they just keep getting better and better.
Here we are opening gifts on Christmas Eve--
The kids were so excited to see that Santa found his way to Grandma and Grandpa's house on Christmas morning--
And we spent the rest of Christmas day with a house full of people coming and going...Over fifteen hours of Christmas celebrating--

We also found time to play outside in the snow during the afternoon and go see a movie (Frozen) in the evening--
